In Starcraft 2, Terran are often considered to currently be the best race and the Terran are certainly the most popular. Out of the 4 choices (Terran, Protoss, Zerg, or Random), it has been reported that over 1/3 of Starcraft 2 Beta testers choose to play as Terran.
For this reason, I decided to put together a Starcraft 2 Terran guide. It seems that if most of the people want to play Terran, it would be a good idea to put a reference list of a variety of strategies together. I recommend this site if you are looking for a complete Starcraft 2 Strategy Guide. For now, let's talk about the pros and cons of the Terran race.
Pros:
1. Easiest Race to Play
The Terran are the easiest race to play as they have no glaring weakness. While other classes have to spend vespene gas and go out of their way to build anti-air units, the Terran's first offensive unit, the Marine, is one of the best mineral-for-pound units in game (i.e. it is strong for how cheap it is) and has a ranged attack that hits air units.
Additionally, Terran can build perfect walls since now Supply Depots can be raised up and down. This allows Terran players to barricade their Marines in behind a wall of Supply Depots and safely fire at melee units on the other side. No more getting Zergling rushed!
Since you can't get rushed either on ground or in the air very easily, Terran is the perfect race for beginners.
2. Most Efficient
Terran are also the most efficient race. Both Protoss and Zerg players will find that the longer the game runs on, the less vespene gas they have. Some of the best Protoss and Zerg units (like the Immortal, Sentry, and Mutalisk) have a very high vespene gas requirement.
On the other hand, Terran's have a few units (Marines, Hellions) that cost absolutely no gas, and have some other low-gas units (Viking, Marauder). The fact that the Terran race has a ship that only costs 75 vespene gas (the Viking) is ridiculous as every other offensive air unit in game costs 100 vespene gas or more!
3. Multiple Viable Combinations
The Terran a large variety of potent unit combinations: Marines, Marauders, and Medivacs (MMM) and Hellions, Siege Tanks, and Thors (Mech). The Mech combination has no counter once the Terran player gets enough of each type of unit.
Once there are 10+ Siege Tanks and 10 Thors on the field, the game has ended. No one will ever be able to kill that army as the Thors and Siege Tanks have incredible range (Thor for air, Siege Tanks for ground) and both do splash damage. For more unit combinations I recommend checking out the Shokz Guide. This review contains a good inside look at what you will find in the guide.
4. No Hard Counters
The other thing about the Terran race is that they have no hard counters. The Terran Mech build is a hard counter for Zerg for example, but no other race has a combination which has a particular advantage over the Terran race.
Cons
The only cons the Terran have are susceptible to cheesy rushes. Normally, Terran can get a wall up quickly, but if the enemy is pulling a proxy Zealot rush or some other tricky strategy, Terran's can be in a rough spot, especially at small maps.
Thus concludes this rendition of the Starcraft 2 Terran guide. More strategies to come!
Interesting information I haven’t been through such information in a long time.
