Starcraft 2 Help - Defeating the Reaper; Starcraft 2 Terran Guide

The Reaper is one of the most feared units in Starcraft 2. In this Starcraft 2 Terran guide, I am actually going to discuss how to stop the Reaper rather than worrying so much about how to beat the Reaper.

For Terran players, the easiest way to stop the Reaper is with the Marauder. It can kill a Reaper in 4-5 hits and can handle direct fire from multiple Reapers. It is as simple as that.

Zerg Players have a very tough time with the Reaper. However, it should be said that Zerglings with the speed upgrade do very well versus this Reaper. This is what is recommended in the Zerg Reaper Counter strategy outlined on a very good Starcraft 2 Strategy guide.

Zerglings with the speed upgrade along with the speed bonus of creep are great for stopping the Starcraft 2 Mass Reapers tactic. This is a common strategy for Terran players to use against Zerg players.

Protoss players have a fairly easy time stopping the Reaper as well. A single Stalker takes out a Reaper in just a few hits, and it takes many Reapers to take down the high HP Stalker. Due to the Reaper's high speed, Protoss players will need several Stalkers scattered around their base and their mineral line in order to cover your base from the Reaper attack. Reapers will rarely go for your buildings in this match-up so you do not have to worry so much about covering your buildings and more about just protecting your Probes from attack.

Starcraft 2 Reaper Rush

The Reaper rush is one of the easiest yet effective ways to win games of Starcraft 2. In particular, it seems to be most effective versus bad players (seriously)!

What I mean by this is that in the Platinum league, most players have seen the Reaper rush and know how to counter it so the person you are playing will really have to get surprised in order to not see this coming.

At any rate, the reason this is worth talking about is because 1) it is really fun to do and 2) it can result in a win in 5 minutes. So if you somehow got stuck into the Bronze league, you can perform the Starcraft 2 Reaper rush repetitively and quickly rank up to at least the Gold league before it stops working. Here is what you will end up doing:

  • Get a Barracks at 7/11 supplies
  • Build a Refinery
  • Harvest Vespene Gas
  • Get a Tech Lab on the Barracks as soon as it is done
  • Start training a Reaper as soon as the tech lab is done
  • Build an Orbital Command and use that for MULEs (big resource bonus)
Send in your Reaper right away as soon as it is finished and start killing enemy units. Meanwhile, build up your base (very important) by getting more harvesters, teching up, and walling in.

Keep producing Reapers and sending them to the enemy's base. You will find that versus low-ranked Protoss players, this is nearly an instant win every time. The only thing you need to do at this point is to control your Reaper:
  • Do not allow your Reaper to get hit with melee attacks from workers, Zealots, or Zerglings.
  • Rather, run away, and when you have enough distance, stop by hitting the "H" key, and then right click to move right away
  • In that brief second you are stopped, your Reaper will attack
Keep repeating this process of getting distance, stopping to attack, and getting more distance (this is known as kiting). You can pick off an unlimited number of workers and Zealots with a single Reaper this way.

Since you will only have 1 Reaper at the start, it is important to kite so you do not get killed by SCVs or Probes.

By following his simple Starcraft 2 Reaper Rush, you can win a lot of fast, easy games and get out of the Bronze league in record speed.

Joana's Starcraft 2 Guide Review

Looking for a Starcraft 2 strategy guide that covers more than just the Terran race? Then I recommend getting Joana's Starcraft 2 Guide.

In this strategy guide, you will find a lot of great tips you can use to climb the ranks and finally break into the Diamond leagues. There is a great unit guide which details every single unit's strengths and weaknesses which is literally a blueprint for easy wins.

If you don't believe me, just check out this Joana's Starcraft 2 Guide Review. The author rates the guide with 4.5 out of 5 stars, which is a pretty solid rating if you ask me.

Here are some of the highlights of Joana's Starcraft 2 guide:

  • Fantastic Beginner's Guide designed to bring newbies up to the top of their game as fast as possible
  • Full campaign guide which will allow you to easily beat all the missions
  • Arranged team strategies
  • Random 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and FFA tactics that will allow you to get wins in all the brackets
  • Individualized strategy guides for each race: Terran, Protoss, and Zerg
The best thing I like about Joana's Starcraft 2 guide though is that Joana actually plays and writes video games for a living.

Famous for his original World of Warcraft Horde Leveling guide, Joana uses his WoW guide to pay his bills so he can dedicate himself full-time to his new Starcraft 2 guide. It is one thing to have a guide written by a great player, it is another thing to have access to a Starcraft 2 resource that is literally being updated as if it was his real job (as it is!).

Since you get free upgrades and Joana is updating this guide constantly, it is surely a win-win situation. Since the guide is constantly being updated and changes along with expansions and common strategy shifts, there is no reason why you cannot use this guide and significantly improve your rankings in online play for the rest of your Starcraft 2 career.

My recommendation is that you check this out if you are serious about improving your Starcraft 2 game.

Starcraft 2 Banshee Strengths and Weaknesses

The Banshee is a brand new Terran Starcraft 2 unit that has a lot of great uses. While this flying unit is a light, low-armor aircraft which can only attack ground units, its attacks are very powerful.

This unit replaces the Wraith from the original Starcraft. Whereas the Wraith dealt great damage to air units but was practically worthless versus ground units, the Banshee is the exact opposite. However, like the Wraith, the Banshee has a cloaking ability which allows it to go invisible to the enemy (unless they have detection).

Banshee Stats

- Takes 2 Supplies
- 140 HP (no armor though, so this is deceiving)
- 12 damage x 2 attacks (24 total damage) every 1.25 seconds (19.2 DPS).

Banshee Strengths
  • Does great damage versus ground units (19.2 DPS is huge; kills a Marine in just over 2 seconds!)
  • Is able to pick off high-value targets
  • Great for harassing minerals
Additionally, this unit is very effective when applying the Starcraft 2 Banshee rush technique. Outlined in the linked article, this rush involves sacrificing all other units and getting a Banshee before the Zerg enemy can get any anti-air units. I find it very effective.

Banshee Weaknesses
  • Cannot hit air units
  • Light armor
The Banshee naturally cannot hit air units and that makes it a weakness. This weakness shows as it is not convenient for players to build both Banshees and Vikings (Vikings are the flying Terran anti-air unit). As a result, a single enemy air-unit can stop a Banshee rush cold.

The Light armor is also a weakness as most races have a unit that counters the Banshee. The Terran's Thor kills a Banshee in just a few hits; the Protoss' Phoenix kills Banshees just as fast.

Additionally, Zerg have Mutalisks, which can attack other air units and counter Vikings. As a result, Mutalisks can easily take out a Banshee and Viking combo.

Other uses for Banshee

This does not make the Banshee completely worthless. Here is another example of a great Starcraft 2 Banshee rush. Additionally, you can use the Banshees for a few other key purposes.

My favorite use for the Banshee is to harass minerals. Even if you lose your Banshees, you can often kill enough harvesters to make it worth it. I consider it a fair trade to kill 4 Harvesters per Banshee; by sending in 6 Banshees I can quickly kill every harvester at an enemy's base, often all 22 of them, before they are able to respond. This is a great trade: you lose about 1500 resources worth of units, but the enemy loses his entire economy plus 1100 resources in unit loss.

This is a devastating blow and almost a sure-fire win for the offensive player. Be sure to wall off your base with a few Siege Tanks and Anti-Air units to protect yourself from a desperate counter attack!
